Going On Parental Leave

Looking forward to welcoming a new baby, but worried about how that may affect your career? Whether it’s your first time becoming a parent, or you’ve done this before, going on leave can be equal parts daunting and exciting.

It’s common at this stage to worry about the unknown. For some, this unknown can bring concern as you question what will happen to your role: whether you’ll be treated differently, or passed up for opportunities.

A first step could be reading my book, ‘A Slight Detour’, which explores how you can create a roadmap for your own journey as a working parent. Or if you feel like you need additional support through the process, I work one-on-one with working parents to help them transition out and then back into, the workplace.

Getting back to work after having a baby? No matter how long your parental leave period is, almost before you know it, it will be time to start thinking about heading back to work.

Whether it’s dealing with the logistical challenges of juggling baby and work, not knowing what’s changed within the organisation, or uncertainty over whether your team’s expectations will be the same as they were before, one of the biggest challenges for parents taking parental leave is a decrease in confidence.

I address this challenge in, ‘A Slight Detour’ which gives you tools to regain your confidence and support your transition back to work, in ways that are successful for you, your baby, and your organisation. Or if you feel like you need additional support through the process, I work one-on-one with working parents to help them transition out and then back into, the workplace.

Returning to work

Are you an Organisation?

  • Returning to Work

Returning from parental leave is a crucial time for every working parent, and the organisation they work for.

Whether you’re a parent heading back to the workplace or an organisation that wants to support your team member to re-enter the workforce successfully and keep adding value?

It can be tempting to assume that, because your team member has worked with you before, they will be fully prepared to jump straight back in. However, returning to work after parental leave is similar to starting a new job, one that comes with a whole bunch of logistical challenges.

  • Going on Leave

Wanting to ensure your team members transitioning to parental leave feel supported and stay engaged with the organisation?

Coming back from parental leave is often the make-or-break time for whether a working parent will want to stay with their current organisation or role.

It’s normal to be focused on the logistics of having someone temporarily leave the organisation, however their emotional needs are important too. If you’re not thinking further ahead, your team member may feel unsupported, and you may risk losing them from your workforce.
